This book would not have been possible without the help of a wonderful young girl of 23 years, Dr. Mahnoor khan and her grandmother (Nani), Misra Begum.

Mahnoor is an intern doctor at SKIMS-MCH Bemina, Srinagar. Originally from Beerwah, Budgam, she resides at Hyderpora, Srinagar currently. She reached out to me in the hopes that I will help preserve the precious repository of her Nani, Misra Begum’s wanwun. For a month and half, every single day without stop, she mesmerized me with her beautiful voice reading each line, correcting the pronunciation and giving me useful tips, while she was on a short break from her job. Future generations of Kashmiris are forever in debt to her and her beautiful Nani.

Misra Begum

Misra Begum, wife of Late Haji Habibullah Goknoo, age 87, resides in Sopore, Baramulla. She is a retired teacher of Govt. Education department, J&K.

During Covid, she sat with her granddaughter Mahnoor and painstakingly recited the Wanwun huer line by line to her granddaughter so they can be saved for our future generations.

Shafat Qazi

Everything I do in my life is possible only because of the help, guidance and support of my wonderful and ever patient husband, Shafat. He has always been a pillar of strength and source of encouragement for all my projects, whether big or small. I just compile the material but he is the one who does the real work of formatting and making this book market ready.
